“Tales Through Melody”
Tales Through Melody is a free community concert series designed to bring music closer to audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Through engaging performances and accessible storytelling, the series invites listeners to discover the emotions, history, and cultural meaning behind the music.
Each concert combines guided introductions with live performance. Before each piece, our young musicians will share its story, historical background, cultural context, musical language, and listening highlights. These introductions give audience members helpful clues and encourage them to hear familiar and unfamiliar melodies in a deeper and more meaningful way.
The program features music from different countries, eras, and traditions, including Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Sha Hankun’s Pastoral Song, Elgar’s Salut d’Amour, and Beethoven’s Ode to Joy. The series also places special emphasis on Asian music and its cultural heritage, using music to encourage greater understanding and appreciation of Asian and multicultural traditions.
Young musicians take part in much more than performing. They help select repertoire, research the music, prepare program introductions, promote the concerts, and assist with event activities. Through this hands-on experience, they develop leadership, organization, teamwork, communication skills, and a stronger sense of community responsibility—growing from students of music into young cultural participants who share music in service of others.
Each concert is approximately 50 minutes long and is free and open to the public. Children, teens, families, and community members of all ages are warmly invited to join us, discover the stories behind the music, and connect through melody.
